Tricks on Making that Beautiful Wallpaper Finish
Wallpapers are one of the best ways to give your walls a splash of colour. They are way off better than paint because you no longer need to wait several hours or days just to let it dry or to let that awful chemical smell go away. Aside from that, wallpapers come in a huge variety of colours, designs and even textures allowing you to create the exact design or ambience that you want for your room.
But putting on wallpaper the right way can be quite a challenge. For those who have tried, getting ugly wallpaper folds and lumps in your walls is almost inevitable – definitely a homeowner’s nightmare. So if you think that getting a smooth and beautiful finish on your wallpapered walls is next to impossible, then think again. Here are simple and easy tricks for you to get that perfect wallpaper finish!
The first trick to getting that beautiful wallpaper finish is to start off with a decent wall, with no holes, cracks, mildew (which you can easily remove with water and some household bleach) or even old remaining wallpapers. Make your wall as smooth as possible. If you have glossy paint in your walls, it is preferred that you sand it first to make sure that the wallpaper will stick to the walls. It is even advisable to apply lining paper first to give your wall paper an absorbent surface to stick to. You can just consider this as a practice or the prelude to hanging the actual wallpaper on your walls.
The next step you should do is to determine the right wallpaper size that you need by measuring the area of your wall. It is preferred that you do this before buying your wallpapers since they also come in different sizes. A standard single roll usually has an area of 36 square feet; double rolls 72 square feet and triple rolls 108 square feet. Knowing the area of your walls can save you money and time on buying the right roll size.
So when you’ve done all these, you can get started on the real work. Make sure that the pattern is in the right way up because having your design upside down would be disastrous! For plain designs, It is preferred that you start sticking your wallpapers in the side of a door or a window – this hides any folds or breaks in pattern. For the bolder patterns, you can start in the focal areas of your walls like a centre wall and start from the middle down to the sides. And when you start mixing the adhesive, make sure it is free of lumps because this will definitely stand out in your walls like a pimple! Once you’re done pasting, allow 2” of the paper to hang on the top and bottom part of your walls before final trimming.
So you see you can hang on wallpaper like a pro. All it takes is a little research and some practice and you will definitely be on the way that beautiful wallpaper finish!
